Merge several PDFs into one on your iPhone or Android phone, using the Files app or your browser. Step-by-step, free and without installing an app.

Quick answer

  • On iPhone, the Files app can merge PDFs: select them, tap More (•••) and choose Create PDF.
  • Android has no built-in merge, but a browser tool like PDFDoco's Merge PDF works without an app.
  • Put the files in the right order before merging — it's much easier than fixing it afterwards.

You've got a contract, an ID copy and a payslip as three separate PDFs, and the form wants one file. On a computer it's easy, but on a phone it's less obvious. Here are the simplest ways to do it on both iPhone and Android — no app downloads and no sign-up required.

Combine PDFs on any phone with your browser

This method works the same on iPhone, Android, tablets and computers.

  1. 1

    Open Merge PDF

In Safari or Chrome, go to pdfdoco.com/merge-pdf.

  2. 2

    Add your files

Tap the upload area and choose the PDFs from your Files app, Downloads or Google Drive. You can add more files afterwards.

  3. 3

    Put them in order

Use the up and down arrows next to each file. The file at the top becomes the first pages of your new PDF.

  4. 4

    Merge and download

Tap Merge PDFs. The combined PDF downloads to your phone, ready to share or upload.

Because the merge happens inside your browser, your documents are never uploaded — useful when you're combining IDs, bank statements or medical records.

Works in Safari and Chrome, no app needed.

Merge PDFs now

On iPhone: use the Files app

iPhones running iOS 15 or later can merge PDFs in the built-in Files app:

  1. 1

Put the PDFs in one folder

Open the Files app and move the PDFs you want to combine into the same folder.

  2. 2

    Select them

Tap the three dots (•••) in the top-right corner, choose Select, and tap each PDF.

  3. 3

    Create the PDF

Tap the three dots (•••) at the bottom-right and choose Create PDF. A new combined file appears in the same folder.

Good to know: The Files app combines files in the order they're sorted in the folder, usually by name. To control the order, rename the files first (for example "1 Contract", "2 ID", "3 Payslip"), or use Merge PDF in your browser, where you can reorder them.

On Android: use your browser

Most Android phones don't have a built-in way to merge PDFs. Instead of installing an app full of ads, use the browser method above: open Merge PDF in Chrome, add the files from your Downloads or Drive, reorder them and tap Merge PDFs. The file is saved to your Downloads folder.

After merging: fix the page order or remove pages

  • Need to move a single page, not a whole file? Use Organize PDF to drag pages into the right order.
  • Combined file too big to upload or email? Run it through Compress PDF.
  • Have photos instead of PDFs? Turn them into a PDF first with JPG to PDF.

Tip: If one of the PDFs is password-protected, remove the password with Unlock PDF before merging.

Frequently asked questions

Can I merge PDFs on iPhone without an app?

Yes. Use the built-in Files app (select the PDFs, tap More, then Create PDF), or open a browser tool like PDFDoco's Merge PDF in Safari.

How do I change the order of PDFs before merging?

In PDFDoco's Merge PDF, use the up and down arrows next to each file. In the iPhone Files app, the order follows the folder's sorting, so rename the files to control it.

Is there a limit to how many PDFs I can combine?

You can add as many files as you need. The free plan supports up to 50 MB in total per task.

Are my files uploaded when I merge them?

No. PDFDoco merges files inside your browser, so they stay on your phone.
